Three Aurora men have been released from police custody after being questioned about a Sunday night shooting in Aurora, police said.
The men, ages 19, 21, and 24, were taken in for questioning following an investigation into a 10:09 p.m. shooting and subsequent traffic crash that occurred near Grove Street and Northeast Drive. According to Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli, officers were called to the scene for reports of shots fired and a head-on collision that appeared to be related.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the 19- and 21-year-old suspects were chasing a couple of unidentified men in the area and fired a couple of shots at them. The suspects then approached a parked Chevrolet Tahoe driven by an 18-year-old woman with several passengers.
Police said that when the people inside the Tahoe saw the gun, they allegedly panicked. The driver then hit the gas and crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of Grove Street and Northeast Drive, Ferrelli said.
Several people were taken to the hospital with injures.
Ferrelli said the men with the gun ran away from the scene. They were arrested when they returned to the scene a short while later in a car driven by the 24-year-old man who was also taken into custody, police said. All three were later released without charges being filed.
