Aurora police have been “getting slammed” with burglary reports involving unlocked vehicles and garages throughout the city, Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

He called the crimes ones of opportunity, and ones that should underscore the importance of locking up homes and cars.
According to Ferrelli, between Aug. 7 and 11 there were six vehicles burglarized in the DuPage County section of Aurora. Those incidents occurred in the 200 and 400 blocks of Meadowlakes Boulevard, 3400 block of St. Barthelemy Lane, and 300 block of Churchill Lane.
Police said that mostly loose change and some vehicle-related documents were taken in these incidents.
On the city’s West Side, four vehicles parked in the same general area were all burglarized overnight on Aug. 11. The vehicles were parked in driveways in the 100 block of South Randall Road, 100 block of South Glenwood Place, and 500 block of Seneca Drive.
Police said jewelry, electronics, DVDs, and tools, worth more than $1,100, were taken.
In addition to these incidents, Ferrelli said electronics, cash and personal items, worth more than $900, were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 700 block of North Elmwood Drive sometime overnight on Aug. 13.
Ferrelli said that on the near East Side of town, a purse and cash, worth $45, was swiped from an unlocked vehicle between 8 and 10 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 700 block of Superior Street.
Police said all of the targeted vehicles were parked in residents’ driveways.
According to Ferrelli, unsecured attached garages have also been targeted by thieves. He said two bicycles, worth around $1,350, were stolen from garages in the 2700 blocks of Squaw Valley Trail and Stuart Kaplan Drive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 11. Another bike was stolen from an attached garage between 3:15 and 4:15 p.m. the same day in the 1800 block of Eastwick Lane.
Police remind residents that service doors inside the garage should be locked in addition to the overhead garage door.
Ferrelli said some of the burglaries are probably related, but police haven’t made any arrests.
“We haven’t made any arrests yet nor do we have suspect info to pass along,” he said.
