A bus from Lake Villa Elementary School District 41 rolled over in a single-vehicle accident on Grand Avenue Wednesday afternoon, but no one was injured, according to Lindenhurst police.

Lindenhurst Police Cmdr. Tony Fikejs said the 16-seat Durham school bus, serving the Lake Villa district, rolled onto its side while traveling westbound on Grand Avenue west of Munn Road near the Lindenhurst-Lake Villa border.

The only occupants of the bus were the driver and her three children, ages 3 to 6, all of whom exited through the rear door of the bus, police said.

Police from both Lindenhurst and Lake Villa responded to the accident, which occurred at 3:37 p.m., Fikejs said.

The Lake Villa Rescue Squad also responded to the scene to check on the children and the driver. It was determined no transport or treatment was needed, according to the police.

Fikejs said the driver indicated there may have been a mechanical problem with the bus, and the cause of the accident is still being investigated.

He said all of the children were properly fastened when the rollover occurred.

“It was fortunate that there were no injuries and it was a safe vehicle,” Fikejs said.
