A former treasurer of the Warren High School Band Boosters Club, charged with stealing almost $27,000 from the club over three years, has indicated through her defense attorney that she is ready and able to pay the money back.

As a result, prosecutors are exploring a plea deal with Maurine Moore, 59, of Park City, and her scheduled trial date of Feb. 23 has been postponed.

Moore is charged with felony theft between $10,000 and $100,000. She is free on a $15,000 bond.

Moore and her defense attorney, Barry Boches, appeared before Judge Mark Levitt on Thursday morning, Feb. 5, and Assistant State’s Attorney George Pappas told the judge that “there is likely going to be a plea” in the case and that Moore has indicated she would make restitution.

Following the hearing, Pappas said that before a negotiated agreement could be finalized, he would need to speak with the victims in the case and verify restitution can be made.

Pappas said the alleged thefts of the Booster Club funds took place between July 2010 and June 2013 when Moore served as treasurer for the group.

In 2014, Gurnee police concluded a four-month investigation into the reported theft of $26,975 from the organization, an investigation that started when an internal audit was sought by a new treasurer, a statement from police said.

The audit showed unauthorized withdrawals of $26,975 were made over a three-year period, and the former treasurer was suspected of making them, according to police.
