The news on Kain Colter? There isn’t much, except that he has not been ruled out for Saturday’s game at Illinois.
Coach Pat Fitzgerald said Monday that Northwestern’s starting quarterback is “day-to-day” and will be re-assessed in the middle of the week. It is believed that he has a shoulder injury, but Fitzgerald has called it “upper body.”
Colter’s Senior Day ended on NU’s second drive when he took a massive shot from Michigan State’s Isaiah Lewis. Playing slot receiver, Colter tried to catch a pass but Lewis crunched him on a low, helmet-to-helmet hit.
“As you would expect after taking a hit like that,” Fitzgerald said, “he is pretty sore, pretty banged up.”
On another topic, Fitzgerald said that decisions regarding his staff wait until after the season. But if he were deciding today, he “fully anticipates” that all of his assistants will return.
