The first time Mike Tauchman played cornerback, the Fremd junior came away with four interceptions against Palatine.
What does he do for an encore?

“I’m usually a receiver, but I’ll be back at cornerback Friday night [against Schaumburg],” Tauchman said.
But what about the Palatine game, when he stopped 6-foot-5-inch Pirates receiver Nick Brown and had those four picks?
“My coach (Mike Donatucci) asked me to try covering him since I’m 6-1,” Tauchman said. “Watching film, I knew the routes he liked to run. I anticipated his moves and got lucky on some of the interceptions. On the fourth one, I was trying to knock the pass down. It went straight up, and I grabbed it.”
He caught everything in sight during unbeaten Fremd’s 24-7 victory, including a 40-yard touchdown reception.
All-nighter
After all the hoopla and media interviews of becoming the winningest coach in state history with 301 victories, Richards’ Gary Korhonen went back to clean up the locker room last Friday and gather the dirty uniforms. About midnight, the 67-year-old Korhonen arrived home and was greeted by more than 100 well-wishers at a surprise party organized by his wife, Eileen.
Just after the party ended at 5 a.m., Korhonen went to a nearby laundromat and washed the Bulldogs’ uniforms — as he had done throughout his 36 years as head coach. “I had time for about an hour nap and then was off scouting a game on Saturday,” he said. He attended the White Sox game Saturday night and hooked up with one of his ex-players, Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski.
Recruiting edge
Tim O’Halloran of rivals.com reports that 6-5, 268-pound Evanston defensive tackle Danny Farr lists Cincinnati and Michigan State as his top choices.
According to O’Halloran, Lincoln-Way Central kicker Jake Wieclaw is being recruited most closely by Illinois and Miami. Purdue, Iowa and Northern Illinois are also in the mix. Marian Catholic tight end Dennis Kelly (6-8, 240) is close to receiving an offer from Purdue. Naperville North linebacker Kyle Lackner has committed to Western Michigan.
Homecoming
Reavis will honor members of the 1982 state championship football team on the 25th anniversary of the achievement Saturday during homecoming festivities at Hanke Stadium in Burbank. The Rams face Argo for second place in the South Suburban Red.
