Residents can take a look inside the historic Yunker farmhouse Saturday as part of the village’s Historical House and Garden Tour.
The Park District, which is hosting a Farm and Barn Fest at the farmstead on LaPorte Road, and the Mokena Historical Society, sponsor of the house tour, are joining forces, said Doug Heathcock, a member of the historical society.
Residents can see both events by catching a tram ride at the farm or at the Front Street Metra station, Heathcock said.
Tour guides will provide a look at Mokena’s history. “This isn’t a dry history lesson. This is your hometown,” he said.

The tour also includes looks at a home built in 1919, a house built of logs and a Civil War-era church, he said.
The Farm and Barn Fest will feature a look at old-fashioned farm life, with activities such as sheep shearing, goat milking, horse training and soap making, as well as entertainment by square dancers and banjo players.
A pig roast contest and an apple pie bakeoff are also planned.
The House Garden Tour and tram ride cost $10. Admission to the Farm and Barn Fest is free.
The House and Garden Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Farm and Barn Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
