Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Man, did I find myself in a pickle the other night.

Typical Wednesday night, the White Sox are at Detroit, game is on TV. Fine, I’ll watch some. I am really peeved at the Sox, so I’ll be clicking.

But, oh, the options. Only sports fans will appreciate this, because sports fans also are movie fans.

“Field of Dreams” on AMC. Seen it about, oh, 150 times. Fine. We’re clicking between the Sox and Costner, Jones and Lancaster–great stuff.

But wait, “The Godfather” is on some channel called Spike. For you die-hards, it’s “The Godfather Saga,” which means there is some footage not seen in “Godfathers I” and “II.” Fine, we’ll throw that into the mix. I’ve seen this 200 times, but it’s been a while.

So, the priority goes: 1) “Field” 2) “Godfather” 3) White Sox. But only because they go up 5-2, and it looks fairly safe.

But wait, I need an Indians score. Enter ESPN. All the way down to Ch. 29.

Darn ESPN. You have to wait, like, 15 minutes for the scroll. Just give me the score already.

Back to “Dreams.” Just in time to hear James Earl Jones deliver his “The one constant has been baseball” speech.

At exactly the same time on Spike, Michael shoots Solazzo and McCluskey in Louie’s restaurant. Honest, you can’t plan this.

Back to ESPN. Indians lose. Phew. I can breathe a little better.

Over to the Sox. The lead is 8-2. We’re safe. Let’s focus on the flicks.

Oh, no, Annie has fallen and is choking on a hot dog. Here comes Doc Graham. I love Burt Lancaster and that wink.

Back to “The Godfather.” Michael is in Sicily. Wants to visit Corleone on foot. I wish there was a town named after me.

Back to the Sox for a look at some numbers. Golly, I am starting to like Jose Contreras again. They may even start him in Game 1 of the playoffs.

Back over to “Field of Dreams” for a scene that always, always makes me cry. It’s when Ray Liotta says, “No Ray, it was you.” It doesn’t get any better.

Back to “The Godfather.” There’s just a tremendous amount of hair on James Caan’s back.

The Sox are over, and so is “Field of Dreams.” People, never underestimate “Master and Commander” as a viable go-to. Really quite good.

So, the Sox win, the Indians lose, and two great movies are watched. All in all, a productive evening.
