Kronos Quartet and Asha Bhosle
“You’ve Stolen My Heart: Songs from R.D. Burman’s Bollywood”
The prestigious string quartet gets some help from Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle on “Heart,” a tribute to the movie soundtracks of the great Indian film industry. On one hand, the Kronos Quartet is as adept as ever at assimilating these foreign sounds. On the other, the approximation of Bollywood’s loopy spirit is so faithful that you might as well seek out the real thing.
Best track: “Lover, Come to Me Now,” a torch song featuring heavy breathing as a rhythmic device.
