The Naperville City Council on Tuesday approved a five-year, $4.1 million contract with garbage hauler Browning-Ferris Industries.
The new agreement goes into effect in May and will offer residents the same “take all” service.
Onyx and Waste Management also bid and lost the contract.
The contract for the current year is $3.5 million. The cost could be reduced more if 95 percent of residences use carts.
Browning-Ferris Industries has been the city’s residential garbage collector since 1998. Last spring the city extended the hauler’s contract by one year to work out an option for wheeled garbage carts. At the end of the new contract, the city will have the option to extend it for one year plus an additional four years.
