Just because Northwestern has lost its first two games and is struggling to find even a few good plays at crucial points is no reason to expect the Wildcats to turn conservative.

Coach Randy Walker installed a fake punt for Texas Christian, didn’t use it then but did against Arizona State. Even though it didn’t work, Walker is serving notice that there will be more chicanery if he has his way.

“I try to create a little juice on the sidelines,” Walker said. “We’ve got to create some things sometimes and I’m trying to create some ways. I have some more stuff up my sleeve; some of it’ll work, some won’t.”

The Wildcats appeared to have practiced with more energy this week.

“We’re going to live on the edge,” Walker said. “I like living on the edge in football. I don’t like playing for the status quo all the time and I don’t think you can do that at this institution. We’re going to come after people.”
