If you’re looking for a definition of the term “student-athlete,” you might consider Lukas Slater of McHenry. As an athlete, the 6-foot-6-inch, 215-pound senior was the quarterback on the Warriors’ football team, and this winter he averaged 23 points, 15 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game on the basketball team while shooting 48 percent from three-point range. With spring approaching, Slater will pitch and play first base for the baseball team. As a student, he ranks No. 4 in his class with a 4.52 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and will play basketball next season at West Point. You might say the Army’s getting a bona fide straight shooter.
