A for-sale sign will be going up on the public works facility on 143rd Street in hopes of selling the property to help pay for a new 76,000-square-foot building set to open in November.
This week the Village Board agreed to sell the 17,000-square-foot steel frame building on 2 acres to help pay down the cost of a $7.3 million facility under construction at 14400 Coil Plus Drive, south of 143rd Street.
About one-half acre of land where a well sits could be added to the deal. Once the village turns on Lake Michigan water later this year, the well no longer will be needed. Allen Persons, public works director, estimated that the land and building could fetch $1.4 million.

The village owes $700,000 on the property, said Village Administrator Terry Burghard.
The board will be soliciting proposals from real estate brokers in the coming weeks.
