No one is more surprised by Casey Taylor’s basketball success than Marian Catholic girls coach Shannon Reidy. “I didn’t get to know her very well until this past summer,” said Reidy, whose Spartans reached the Elite Eight last season and are 8-0 this season. The 5-foot-10-inch junior played on the sophomore team last season and then won a state triple jump title in the spring. She also finished fourth in the long jump. “She was an athlete, but I never knew how she’d fit in her senior year,” Reidy said. Now Taylor is fitting in as one of the team captains. She’s averaging 11 points and put up 12 against preseason No. 1 Young and 20 against Hersey.
