Title: Manager of design selections for Dubin Residential home builder
Neighborhood: Edgewater
Describe your job: I create design options programs for new homeowners and guide them through the selection process.
Why is your job cool? I get to play a role in the process of making people’s dreams a reality.
How did this interest begin? I’ve always had creative interests. I’ve been involved with music and theater my whole life, even to the point of earning my bachelor’s in music education. Design is simply another way of expressing my creativity.

Do you miss performing? I do miss it.
Fortunately, I still do quite a bit of freelancing. Over the past few years, I’ve sung with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Grant Park Chorus.
How did you know you had an eye for design? Does it count that at 7 years old I knew avocado-green shag in my bedroom and mustard-colored carpet with fuzzy, paisley, mustard wallpaper in the hallway just doesn’t cut it? I can’t think of a time when I didn’t pay attention to good design.
What’s the best advice for people designing their first homes? Preparation! Scan magazines, wander through design showrooms, talk with friends–anything to get ideas brewing. Be bold and satisfy your current tastes, but also consider whether the next owner of your home will be as thrilled with a home in an eggplant color theme.
Do you look at your own home differently now? Not only my own, but every house and building I enter. It’s fun to live vicariously through our buyers for the time being, but I have to admit that I can’t wait to have the chance to design my own place.
