Chicago recorded its first swim ban of the season Wednesday at a beach plagued in recent years with high levels of bacteria.

Chicago Park District officials banned swimming at 63rd Street Beach because of high levels of E. coli bacteria Wednesday and expect to get additional test results mid-morning Thursday to see if the beach may be reopened, according to a district spokeswoman.

The beach has had among the highest number of swim bans in recent years because of high bacteria counts.
