Two women who allegedly stole nearly $1,700 in clothing from the Alo Yoga store in downtown Naperville were arrested in Oak Brook after taking police on a high-speed chase, officials said.

Arterria Lipsey, 32, of Minneapolis, and Shataya Connor, 28, of Chicago, are accused of stealing $1,694 in merchandise from the 19 W. Jefferson Ave. store about 7:15 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office and the Elmhurst Police Department.

An Elmhurst police officer spotted the women in a Dodge Durango being driven by Lipsey on eastbound Interstate 290 and attempted to pull them over, the release said. Instead of stopping, they fled and reached speeds of 82 mph in an attempt to escape before being halted by a spike strip laid by Oak Brook police officers.

Lipsey was arrested and charged with one count each of felony burglary, retail theft and aggravated fleeding as well as multiple misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, the release said. Connor faces felony burglary and retail theft charges.

DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state’s motion to hold Lipsey in the county jail pending the outcome of her case. Connor was released on her own recognizance.

“In DuPage County, you cannot simply enter a local business, help yourself to nearly seventeen hundred dollars’ worth of merchandise, walk out without paying and expect to get away with it,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

“What I find particularly upsetting in this case is the allegation that Arterria Lipsey, who was driving the getaway car, then led police on a dangerous high-speed chase, putting the officers involved and countless innocent motorists at great risk,” he said. “Thankfully, no innocent motorists were injured or worse.”

Lipsey’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 16. Connor is to next be in court on Nov. 10.
