Christina Applegate says she recently learned she had been misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
The 54-year-old “Married… with Children” star revealed in 2021 that she was battling the sometimes debilitating neurological disease. But this week on her “MeSsY” podcast with actor Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate said she was misdiagnosed and doesn’t have an answer on what’s causing her poor health.
“I’m back at square one that I don’t know what’s going on with me,” she said on Tuesday’s broadcast.
Sigler and Applegate launched their podcast in March 2024. Chief among the topics the duo discusses is their seemingly shared experience with MS.
Applegate said that more than two years ago her doctor ran a battery of tests that concluded she, like Sigler, suffered from a disease that breaks down her nerves’ protective covering. But during a recent visit, her physician said “Um, congratulations. You don’t have MS.”
While that may seem like good news to some, Applegate confessed that she doesn’t know what to think.
“You don’t get misdiagnosed and then all of a sudden I’m better, right?” she said. “I haven’t gotten better, Jamie. If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways.”

Applegate claims she still has “every symptom” of MS without having any idea what’s causing her ongoing sickness. The Los Angeles native said she feels as though she may have disappointed supporters who identified with her condition. She also worries that she’s lost the sense of purpose that inspired her to become an MS activist.
“I don’t have a reason and it’s very unnerving and it’s very confusing for me,” Applegate said.
