Rapper Rick Ross was arrested early Thursday morning in Miami Beach after he was accused of busting his girlfriend’s lip and slamming her against a wall in a domestic violence incident in August that was only reported to police two days ago, police said.
Ross, 50, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, voluntarily surrendered to detectives at Miami Beach Police headquarters.
According to Miami Beach police, the incident took place on Aug. 28 at a home on Star Island. Police did not release the name of the woman who filed the report, but they identified her as his live-in girlfriend of more than a year.
She told them Ross was angry at her because someone tagged her in an Instagram post, leading him to believe she was cheating on him. She said Ross slapped her in the face, “restricted her breathing by twisting the collar of her hoodie” and grabbed her by the ponytail to slam her against a wall. She suffered a busted lip during the altercation, according to a police report.
She gave a sworn statements and had pictures to show the injuries. Police also were able to gather information from surveillance footage at the residence.
