A fire damaged several vehicles Monday afternoon that were parked on the fourth floor of the parking garage in the 500 block of Washington Boulevard at Fenwick High School, school officials said.

An electric vehicle caught fire in the parking garage which damaged five vehicles, three of which “sustained extensive  damage,” according to village and school officials.

The other two vehicles sustained minor damages, according to Nia Lackland, Oak Park Police Department’s community engagement manager.

There were no reported injuries and the garage was back open and in full use.

The fire occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. and the school was evacuated until around 2:20 p.m. after getting permission to return from Oak Park’s safety officials, according to Scott Hardesty, Fenwick’s director of marketing communication.

The rest of the school day resumed as normal with the regular dismissal at 2:50 p.m. on Monday, Hardesty said, and school is set to continue with a regular schedule tomorrow.

The fire was extinguished, village officials said, though the Oak Park Fire Department’s preliminary investigation was said to still be ongoing around 4:40 p.m.
