Maurice Jesse Scarber, 22, of Gary, Indiana, was shot and killed in Harvey on Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
At about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Harvey Police Department and Cook County sheriff’s office arrived at the intersection of Marshfield Avenue and 158th Street in response to reported gunshots, Harvey police said.
First responders found Scarber, who had been shot, and took him to Ingalls Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest.
Harvey police said they are investigating with the Illinois State Police, and asked that anyone with information contact 708-331-3030 Ext. 226.
