A new Chuck E. Cheese concept swapping arcade games for indoor playground equipment will open in south suburban Crestwood next year.
After finding success with its first Adventure World location in Arlington, Texas last year, the children’s entertainment company decided to bring the concept to life in six more locations across the country this year and seven locations, including Crestwood, next year. The company news release said three other locations will also open in Jalisco, Mexico.
Adventure World will provide 12,000 to 18,000 square feet of space for multiple-story playground structures, character entertainment, food and toddler activities, according to Chuck E. Cheese company officials.
“Families said two things stood out: getting up close with Chuck E. and friends in a way they never had before and the chance for kids to invent their own adventures,” the company said in a news release.
Party pricing packages for the indoor playground start at $100 for six children, including all-day admission to Adventure World. Packages with food and additional perks cost up to $37 per child, according to the Adventure World website.

Themed areas at each location will feature classic Chuck E. Cheese characters, with names like Munch’s Cosmic Bounce, Bella’s Castle Quest, Jasper’s Bubble Reef and Chuck E.’s Jungle Temple. Climbing structures, slides, ball pits, obstacles, a toddler zone and a video wall for a “digital live show” are all part of the indoor playground, according to the Chuck E. Cheese news release.
Neither the company nor Crestwood Mayor Kenneth Klein responded to requests for more information Friday about the planned south suburban Adventure World.
Under new CEO Scott Drake, Chuck E. Cheese has hoped to reinvent itself as the birthday party destination for a new generation. Before revamping its brand, Chuck E. Cheese struggled financially, with parent company CEC Entertainment reporting losses of $28 million in 2019 before filing for bankruptcy in June 2020, the Dallas Morning News reported.
While a traditional Chuck E. Cheese remains open in Tinley Park, the former entertainment center on 95th Street in Oak Lawn closed in 2017, after a series of violent incidents. The Southtown previously reported that between 2011 and 2017, Oak Lawn police responded to more than 300 calls and made more than two dozen arrests at the restaurant, mostly for battery and disorderly conduct.
Chuck E. Cheese ultimately reached an agreement with village officials to close the Oak Lawn location, reducing the facility’s hours beforehand, raising questions about a possible relocation elsewhere in the Southland.
By the end of the year, Chuck E. Cheese indoor playgrounds are expected to open in West Fargo, North Dakota, Chandler, Arizona, Rochester, New York, Houston, Texas, Plano, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Along with the Crestwood location, the company aims to bring Adventure World to Flint, Michigan, MacArthur Park, California, Hawthorne, California, Lakewood, Colorado, Chesterfield, Missouri, and Los Angeles, California in 2027.
