National Weather Service officials said a flood watch was in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday as showers and thunderstorms roll through Chicago and surrounding areas.

Officials said showers and thunderstorms are possible mainly between noon and 1 p.m. when temperatures are expected in the mid 70s. The chance of precipitation is 100%.

New rainfall of between one and two inches is possible, officials said.

In Illinois, flashflooding is possible in central, southern and northern Cook County, including the counties of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, Lee and Will. The threat of flashflood also reaches to northwest Indiana in Lake and Porter counties, officials warned.

Creeks, streams and rivers may rise out of their banks and flooding may happen in areas with poor drainage, officials said.

The system moving through the area this morning may cause localized flooding, and additional showers and storms expected in the night hours may cause another flood watch to be issued.

Current afternoon conditions at O’Hare International Airport is overcast at 66 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are similiar at 67 degrees.

Mild temperatures and rain are expected in the area up to Tuesday night.
