Construction can resume on a Holiday Inn Express at the Coffee Creek Center in Chesterton after being shut down for two months due to foundation issues.

Mark O’Dell, town engineer and building commissioner, said the town issued a stop-work order on the site on July 9.

O’Dell said issues with the foundation’s subgrade prompted the shutdown.

The foundation had to be redone with more stone added. O’Dell said the town lifted its stop-work order effective on Sept. 11.

Amerilodge, a Detroit area developer, is the owner of the planned four-story,105-room hotel in the Coffee Creek development.

The hotel is being built on a 2.78-acre lot at Village Point and Blackwell Lane.
