The Porter County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting early Thursday morning in Union Township in which a male was injured.

Officers were dispatched around 2:18 a.m. Thursday to a residence off of County Road 500 N to investigate a disturbance with shots fired, according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.

One male was transported for medical treatment for gunshot wounds as a result of the disturbance, police said. His condition is not known.

The incident appears to be isolated and police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Marshall at 219-477-3136.

McFalls said additional information is not yet being released since the investigation is ongoing, and thanked assisting agencies.
