A daylight mass shooting and subsequent traffic crash with a CTA bus in Humboldt Park left one person dead and at least five people injured early Sunday afternoon, according to Chicago police.
The attack, on the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue, occurred around 12:15 p.m., according to a notification sent from CPD’s internal information clearinghouse. Harrison (11th) District police originally reported three people shot and a fourth hit in a road accident, but an update sent about an hour later increased the number of victims to six, and then seven.
Police said six people were standing outdoors near an alley when multiple armed people exited two vehicles and fired shots at the group. A 30-year-old woman inside a vehicle was also shot and then crashed into a CTA bus.
A man who suffered multiple gunshot wounds was transported to Stroger Hospital and later pronounced dead. A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and stomach and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, initially reported in critical condition.
Four other male victims — aged 14, 18, 21 and 26 — were in initially good condition and receiving treatment at Stroger. The female driver of the car that crashed was transported to Mount Sinai and was reportedly in good condition. The CTA bus driver was also transported to a hospital for observation.
