Officials with the Gary/Chicago International Airport will review its $5.4 million 2027 tax levy budget during Tuesday’s Gary City Council meeting. The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Gary Public Safety facility’s community room, 555 Polk St.

The Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority approved the budget during its Wednesday meeting.

Consultant Eric Cender said the tax levy budget includes general and cumulative building funds. The budget needs city council approval, Cender said. The budget is similar to this year’s, Cender added although he expects increased revenue from additional hangar leases.

“We just increased salaries a little bit and insurance as costs increase,” he said.

“I think we have a spending plan that in total is realistic. We may actually see revenue come in higher but we don’t want to get too aggressive,” he said.

After the meeting, executive director Dan Vicari said the 2027 budget is about $5.43 million, or about $482,375 higher than this year.

For the second straight month, the authority tabled action on a a hangar lease with Sage-Popovich Inc. Vicari said the authority wanted a few additional details ironed out. The new hangar is still under construction, east of Sage-Popovich’s first hangar.
