DAUGHTER PLEADS GUILTY TO OBSTRUCTING AGENT DURING IMMIGRATION RAID

A Gary woman legally admitted last month to obstructing a federal agent during an October 2025 immigration raid to arrest her father, court filings show.

Sarai Carrillo, 25, signed a plea deal filed Aug. 25 in the U.S. District Court in Hammond to misdemeanor assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer.

In documents, she admitted “obstructing” the agent from going further in the home, and “forcibly pushing” him. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15.

Previously, Carrillo denied the allegations to the Post-Tribune, believing it was retaliation for asking for a warrant. Carrillo’s mother Martha Ruiz, who was in the process of applying for a green card, was also arrested and taken to an ICE facility in Texas before she was released.

Carrillo’s father, 54-year-old Rosario Carrillo Lopez, was sentenced in early August to one year and one day after pleading guilty to assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer. He will likely be deported after he serves his time.

CROWN POINT MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE

A Crown Point man is facing several charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in his vehicle near the Crown Point square, records show.

Zachary Raspopovich, 34, is charged with two counts of rape, one count of criminal confinement, sexual battery and domestic battery, plus one misdemeanor.

Crown Point Police responded after midnight Sept. 1 to the 100 block of S. Main Street.

The woman told officers Raspopovich joined her and a friend at a restaurant.

Afterwards, they had sex in his car, when Raspopovich allegedly turned “violent,” hit, choked her and wouldn’t stop having sex with her, the affidavit states.

Raspopovich told police the encounter was “consensual.”

PORTAGE MAN GETS 40-YEAR SPLIT TERM IN SEX ABUSE CASE

A Portage man was sentenced to a 40-year split term Wednesday in a sex abuse case, according to a press release.

A jury convicted Michael Langford, 48, in January of abusing three boys.

Judge Natalie Bokota sentenced him to 30 years in prison on three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and another 10 years total on sex offender probation for two counts of child seduction.

Deputy Prosecutor Arturo Balcazar argued at trial that Langford “knew what he was doing to these boys.”

The victims didn’t decide “to make up a story” for almost eight years, he said.

Defense lawyer Herb Shaps told jurors then he believed the victims made it up. There was no “medical” or “forensic” evidence corroborating the accounts, he said.

Langford also has a pending obstruction of justice case. A hearing is scheduled in October.
