9-year-old shot and critically wounded on South Side

A 9-year-old boy shot and critically wounded a 13-year-old boy on the city’s South Side Friday afternoon, police said.

The 9-year-old was inside a residence on the 5200 block of South Wells Street in the Fuller Park neighborhood with a firearm when he fired one shot and struck the 13-year-old just after 4 p.m., according to Chicago police.

The 13-year-old was transported to UChicago Medicine in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, police said.

One handgun was recovered on scene.

Area detectives were investigating.
