
DAR CELEBRATING CONSTITUTION WEEK WITH SPECIAL EVENTS
Naperville’s Fort Payne Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is planning several activities to recognize national Constitution Week, which will be held Sept. 17 to 23.
Brookdale Elementary School students will raise the flag and ring the bell at 8 a.m. Sept. 17 to kick off the week. Naper Elementary School will ring its bell at 2:15 p.m.
Mayor Scott Wehrli is to issue a city proclamation for Constitution Week, which was signed into law in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Veterans’ clubs at Naperville Central and Naperville North high schools will join Fort Payne members on the steps of the Carillon in downtown Naperville to ring handbells at 3 p.m. Sept. 17, and carillonneur Tim Sleep will play patriotic songs.
Throughout the week, posters will be on display at each of the three Naperville libraries to promote the U.S. Constitution.
PARK DISTRICT ANNOUNCES HOLIDAY HOURS OF OPERATION
The Naperville Park District will close the parking lots at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center and the Park District Administration Center, both on Jackson Avenue, starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, and reopening Tuesday, Sept. 8, for the Last Fling festival.
Holiday hours of operation also are planned for district facilities over the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-7.
The Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center will be closed Sept. 2 to 7.
The Fort Hill Activity Center will be open regular hours other than on Sept. 7, when it will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Springbrook and Naperbrook golf courses and Sportsman’s Park Trapshooting Range will be open normal hours during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Knock Knolls Nature Center will be open Sept. 5, but closed Sept. 6-7.
Centennial Beach will be open from 9 to 10:55 a.m. Sept. 5-7 for adult float; however, adult float is for members only on Sept. 7. Open swim will be held from 11 a.m. to dusk Sept. 5 and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 6 and 7. The pool is closed for the season after the holiday.
The Paddleboat Quarry will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 5-7.
FOREST FRIENDS HOSTING ‘NIGHT FOR NATURE’ FUNDRAISER
The Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is planning a fundraiser to support native wildlife and habitat restoration at DuPage forest preserves.

“A Night for Nature” will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at St. James Farm, 2S541 Winfield Road, Warrenville.
Tickets are $125 per person. The evening, which is for adults 21 and older, features a silent auction, food, drinks, live music by Big Sky Acoustic and wagon rides through the forest preserve.
Silent auction items include travel packages, artwork and exclusive forest preserve experiences, such as an opportunity to be among the first to play at the redesigned Maple Meadows Golf Preserve, a private behind-the-scenes tour of the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center or a horse-drawn wagon ride and fire at the Danada Forest Preserve.
Organizers hope to raise $50,000 to support the forest district’s restoration projects, wildlife rehabilitation and species-recovery programs, including those for freshwater mussels, Blanding’s turtles and Hine’s emerald dragonflies, a news release said.
