A 17-year-old boy is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of a young boy who was found shot on the city’s South Side earlier this spring, authorities said.

The teen has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, Chicago police announced in a news release Friday night.

The charge comes nearly two months after 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever was found with a gunshot wound to his head in the South Chicago neighborhood on the afternoon of May 21. McKeever, of West Town, was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition. After a week in the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Authorities arrested the teen suspect on Thursday in the 3000 block of East 79th Place in South Chicago.

The teen is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Saturday.
