A Riverdale, Illinois, man is in jail after an alleged road rage incident in which he pointed a gun at someone on the Borman, police said.

Indiana State Police troopers responded at around 2:25 p.m. July 14 to a road rage incident on Interstate 80/94 eastbound near the 3-mile-marker near Kennedy Avenue in Hammond, ISP spokesman Sgt. Glen Fifield said in a release. Troopers were told a driver allegedly pointed a handgun at another motorist, and many have shot at them, Fifield said.

The victim told troopers that the driver of a white Hyundai Sonata pointed a gun at them while they were driving east, Fifield said. The victim said they followed the Sonata on Cline Avenue until they lost sight of it.

Troopers, with the assistance of Highland Police, found the Sonata traveling westbound on Ridge Road near Kennedy Avenue a short time later, so they stopped it and ordered the driver from the vehicle, Fifield said.

The driver, identified as Leon D. Seaton, 47, of Riverdale, told troopers he had a “BB gun” inside the vehicle.

The gun the troopers found inside the center console, however, was a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun with a blue lower frame and black slide, Fifield said, and they determined Seaton did point the gun at the victim because of a road rage incident that had occurred on the interstate.

Seaton was transported to the Lake County Jail, charged with pointing a firearm at a person, a Level 6 felony. Any additional charges will be determined by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, Fifield said.
