Lake Forest High School graduate Sam Larson was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 16th round (464th overall) of the Major League Baseball Draft on July 12.

Larson, a member of Lake Forest High School’s Class of 2023, was taken on the second day of the draft after going 2-3 with four saves in 28 appearances during his junior season at Tulane. It was his first season with the Green Wave after transferring from Division III Denison University, where he played in 2024 and 2025.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound right-hander won three games over two seasons for the Scouts.

Ray Del Fava, Larson’s head coach at LFHS, noted Larson’s work ethic helped him develop into a major league prospect.

“The tools were all there. He hadn’t quite put it all together in high school, and once he did, you can see the results,” Del Fava said. “To his credit, no one worked harder. He was so consistent with his throwing program that once it all clicked, you can see where his ceiling is now. I couldn’t be happier for him.”
