A Round Lake Beach, Illinois, man is dead after a boating accident near Hammond’s Horseshoe Casino late Saturday night.
City of Hammond first responders were called at around 11:34 p.m. to the Hammond Marina after receiving a call that a boat struck its break wall, Indiana Department of Natural Resources spokesman Alex Neel said in a release. Six individuals were on board when it happened, Neel said.
First responders found one of the passengers unresponsive on the break wall, Neel said, after which they started CPR and took him to a local hospital. The man, whom the Lake County Coroner’s office has identified as Herman Woods, age 66, was later pronounced dead.
INDNR officers are investigating the accident’s cause, and it remains under investigation with no new information, Neel said in the release. He didn’t return a request for comment by deadline.
The Hammond Police Department and Fire Department assisted.
