A Lake in the Hills man convicted of fatally shooting one man and injuring another in an August 2020 road rage incident in Elgin has been sentenced to 96 years in prison.
Dru K. Jarvis, 27, of the 1300 block of Cunat Court, angered when the driver of the victims’ car honked after the vehicle in which Jarvis was a passenger cut them off, fired multiple shots into their car while it was stopped at Kimball and State streets, a Kane County state’s attorney’s office news release said.
Front-seat passenger Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga, 41, of Elgin, was struck in the torso and later died at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. The driver, Trujillo-Uscanga’s coworker, was hit in the leg, the release said.
Jarvis was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed violence in a jury trial on Oct. 23, 2025, and sentenced this week by Kane County Judge John Barsanti.
Prosecutors said that one week after the fatal incident, Jarvis was involved in another shooting in the 300 block of South McLean Boulevard in Elgin. In that case, he was found guilty of aggravated discharge of a weapon and sentenced to four years in prison.
“Today’s sentence holds this defendant accountable for a completely senseless act of violence that took the life of Francisco Trujillo and forever changed the life of another innocent victim,” Assistant State’s Attorney Mark Stajdohar said in the release.
“The prosecution team is very grateful that the surviving victim lived through this horrific attack and had the courage to testify about what happened that day. We hope he can now move forward with his life.”
