“Mark works as a marketing and communications professional with nearly two decades of experience helping organizations translate complex ideas into clear, compelling stories that build trust with their audiences,” Adamo wrote. “His interest in serving on the District 67 Board stems from a desire to contribute his professional expertise to support an institution in which he is deeply invested as both a parent and a community member.”
Pickett has lived in Lake Forest for six years and soon will have two children attending District 67 schools.
He also has been active with the Lake Forest Caucus, serves on the board of the Rotary Club of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff, and volunteers as a youth sports coach.
“Civic engagement is very important to me as shown through my volunteering in Lake Forest,” Pickett said in an interview. “I saw an opportunity to assist the school district with communications and community engagement, which aligns with my background.”
Pickett’s term on the seven-member board runs through April 2027. He said he plans to seek the Lake Forest Caucus endorsement to run for a full four-year term in next year’s municipal election.
Pickett’s appointment follows the May resignation of Timo Berger due to an international relocation, according to Adamo.
“We are fortunate to have so many willing and capable community members who are committed to supporting our schools, and we are grateful to all who expressed interest in this opportunity,” Adamo wrote.
Adamo did not specify how many residents applied for the vacancy.
District 67 serves students at Sheridan, Cherokee, and Everett elementary schools through fourth grade and at Deer Path Middle School for grades five through eight.
