A man was critically wounded Thursday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in the city’s Near West Side, authorities said.

A 41-year-old man was exiting a vehicle in the 500 block of South Claremont Avenue in the Little Italy/UIC neighborhood at around 2:40 p.m. when a white sedan approached and multiple gunmen inside opened fire, according to Chicago police.
The man was shot multiple times. The sedan fled in an unknown direction, police said.
The man was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
