A man recently subject to a restraining order was shot by Chicago police officers late Monday after he allegedly killed a man during a confrontation at an Uptown neighborhood condo complex.

The shooting unfolded about 8:22 p.m. in the 4800 block of North Clark Street in the Lincoln (20th) District when officers responded to a call of shots fired, according to a preliminary statement from the Chicago Police Department.

A “known male offender” shot and critically wounded a 63-year-old man after the two were in an argument, police said Tuesday. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not release the deceased man’s name Tuesday. Court records indicate the alleged shooter lived in the building, too.

Responding officers chased the alleged shooter onto the 1400 block of West Argyle Street, according to police. It was there that “the offender turned and raised his firearm in the direction of officers.” Pursuing CPD officers then opened fire, striking the man. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition. A gun was recovered at the scene.

Three officers were taken to a local hospital for observation after the shooting. The Chicago police investigative response team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability were notified.

The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duty for at least 30 days.

No criminal charges were announced in the shooting early Tuesday. CPD and Cook County court records show the man was arrested at the same condo building on June 10 after a woman claimed he threw furniture from her condo into the street below. In an application for an order of protection filed on June 11, the woman claimed he “has threatened to burn petitioner’s home down and kill her dog.”

A Cook County judge approved the petition the same day, ordering the man stay away from the building, records show.
