A judge Monday ordered a three-year prison sentence for a bouncer who fired a gun at a west suburban nightclub during a scuffle, killing a 21-year-old woman on the dance floor.
Kevin Henley, 35, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter during a hearing at a branch courthouse in Maywood before Judge Geary Kull, who handed down the sentence. Prosecutors dropped the remaining gun charges he faced.
Zulma Daniela Calderon Pacheco was dancing with her boyfriend on March 8, 2025, when Henley, a bouncer who wasn’t supposed to have a gun, fired a shot during a scuffle at Mansion Live nightclub in Stone Park, prosecutors had said. Though Calderon Pacheco had nothing to do with the fight, she was fatally struck by the bullet.
The shooting spurred a lawsuit against the nightclub and the security company filed by the family, who last year tearfully spoke out at a news conference demanding answers about the shooting death. The lawsuit remains pending.
“Me arrebataron la mitad de mi vida. Half of my life was taken from me,” the victim’s mother said last year.
Henley was barred from having a gun, as he was already on probation for a gun offense, prosecutors have said. He grabbed a gun from his waistband, raised it, made a windmill motion with his arms and the gun discharged, they had said. Henley then hid the weapon in a bathroom and left.
Henley’s defense attorneys, though, had contended that Henley carried a gun because he was previously threatened at the club, and that video shows that he wasn’t trying to aim at anyone when the gun went off.
Judge Shawnte Raines-Welch previously ordered Henley to electronic monitoring while his case was pending, noting the low level of the charges and Henley’s relatively minimal criminal history.
“I don’t think anyone disagrees that these are tragic facts but with an unintended outcome,” Raines-Welch said last year.
