MONTHLY THIRSTY THURSDAYS START THIS WEEK

East Dundee’s free outdoor entertainment season gets underway Thursday, May 28, with the monthly Thirsty Thursday Street Fest set for 6 to 9 p.m. on the grounds of The Depot, 319 N. River St.

The evening will feature Radio Gaga, which performs the music of Lady Gaga and Queen, according to the village website. Food and beverages from East Dundee restaurants will be on sale.

The first of four monthly Motor Monday Cruise Nights is scheduled from 5 p.m. to dusk Monday, June 8, on North River Street by The Depot. Produced by the Midwest Racing Preservation Association, the cruise will feature a variety of vintage vehicles and classic cars.

The first of four monthly Wine Down Wednesday concerts will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. Performing that evening will be Brass on Fire, which plays oldies featuring brass instruments, including numbers made famous by Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire.

‘JAGGED LITTLE PILL’ OPENS AT THE LODGE

Schaumburg On Stage and point2point productions will present the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Jagged Little Pill” at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, May 29 and June 5; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6; and 2 p.m. Sundays, May 31 and June 7, at The Lodge Performing Arts Center, 18 Villa Court, Elgin.

There will also be a cocktail reception and dinner featuring a preshow talk by Melissa Jones, who produced the musical on Broadway, and artist and activist Lourds Lane, founder of the nonprofit The SuperYou FUNdation, at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 30, according to a news release for the production.

The musical uses songs from Alanis Morissette’s 1995 album, “Jagged Little Pill,” for which she received five Grammy Awards. The play tells the story of a family where “beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect suburban household lies a web of unspoken truths, addiction, trauma, identity struggles and the desperate need for connection,” according to the release.

LORDS PARK ZOO OPENS FOR SEASON SATURDAY

Lords Park Zoo in Elgin will open for the summer season starting Saturday, May 30.

The first day will feature JG’s Reptile Show, where people can learn about and interact with animals, according to the Friends of the Lords Park Zoo website. During the zoo’s season, there will be 34 free drop-in programs funded by the nonprofit Friends group.

The zoo is located in Lords Park, 207 Grand Blvd.. It is free to visit and open daily through Sunday, Aug. 16. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

DUNDEE PARK DISTRICT CONCERTS START JUNE 2

The Dundee Township Park District will host a series of nine Tuesday summer outdoor concerts, with the first scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 2 in Carpenter Park, 275 Maple Ave., Carpentersville.

Appearing that night will be Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute act Fortunate Sons, according to the park district website.

The concerts will rotate among Carpenter Park; Grafelman Park, 112 N. Fifth St., West Dundee; Lions Park, 570 Penny Ave., East Dundee; and Sabatino Park, 145 Thorobred Lane, Sleepy Hollow. The Dundee Lions Club will sell food and beverages, and the Kona Ice truck will be onsite.
