
DOLPHIN COVE, SPLASH PADS OPEN SATURDAY
Dolphin Cove Family Aquatic Center in West Dundee and splash pads in Elgin and West Dundee will open for the season Saturday, May 23, with the South Elgin splash pad following suit on Monday, May 25.
Dolphin Cove will offer an opening day special in which a free child’s admission accompanies any adult admission purchase, according to the Dundee Township Park District website.
The aquatic center season runs from May 23 through Aug. 30, with a switch to weekends-only starting Aug. 15 It will also be open on Labor Day, Sept. 7.

DISTRICT U-46 SETS HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION TIMES
Commencement ceremonies for School District U-46’s five high schools will be held Saturday, May 23, at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates.
They are scheduled for 8 a.m., South Elgin; 11 a.m., Elgin; 2 p.m., Bartlett; 5 p.m., Larkin; and 8 p.m., Streamwood.
Guests should arrive 45 minutes prior to the ceremony they plan to attend. Carpools are encourage to reduce parking and traffic problems.

FOX TROT PREVIEW RUN ON MEMORIAL DAY
Organizers of the 49th annual Elgin Valley Fox Trot will hold a free course preview run at 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, beginning and ending at the Gail Borden Public Library parking lot, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.
The actual Fox Trot 10-mile and 5K races will be held at the same location on Sunday, May 31, according to the event website. New this year is a 2K Fun Walk.
Following the May 31 events, there will be a post-race party featuring an awards presentation, vendor expo, music, dancing, free beer for all drinking-age runners, treats for kids and food trucks

EPD’S SAFE TOGETHER ACADEMY STARTS TUESDAY
Elgin Police Department’s free Safe Together Academy, held monthly for eight months for people with disabilities, begins Tuesday, May 26.
Sessions are presented from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, according to a police department social media post.
“Safe Together Academy is designed to strengthen connections between individuals with disabilities, their caregivers and local first responders,” the post said. “The program focuses on fostering safer interactions, increasing understanding and building positive, lasting relationships.”
Students will learn how police officers and firefighters respond to calls for service and what they can expect during emergencies.
