Three pets were rescued on the afternoon of May 15 after a fire broke out at a Lake Forest home, according to city officials.

The Lake Forest Fire Department responded at 1:58 p.m. to a residence near the intersection of Westleigh and Green Bay Roads after receiving reports of smoke coming from the roof of two-story home, according to a department statement.

Upon arriving at the scene, crews discovered an active fire in the attic above the home’s garage. Firefighters were then informed by the homeowners that two dogs and one cat were still inside the house. The pets were safely evacuated one by one by firefighters, Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Roberts said.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported, according to the statement.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and a property damage estimate was not immediately available, Roberts added.

Lake Forest firefighters received assistance from several neighboring departments in extinguishing the blaze.
