A 25-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of an infant girl Friday morning in the Gage Park neighborhood, according to Chicago Police.
Officers arrested Tatiana Maxwell at 8:45 a.m. Friday in the 5800 block of S. Maryland Ave. She was identified as the offender who, moments earlier, fatally stabbed the infant in the 3000 block of W. 59th St., located in the 8th District.
Maxwell, mother to the victim, leapt from a second-floor window, Chicago police said.
Maxwell is facing one felony count of murder in the first degree and one felony count of murder with a strong probability of death or injury.
Authorities said Maxwell was quickly placed into custody and subsequently charged. She was then brought to UChicago Medicine, where she was stabilized.
Around 7:20 a.m., the infant suffered a puncture wound to the chest. The baby girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
