ECC STUDENT WINS FISHER NUT RECIPE CONTEST

Elgin Community College culinary arts student Lynn Stringini has won the 15th annual Fisher Nuts Recipe Competition for the second consecutive year.

Stringini, an Elgin resident, took tops honors with her vegan pistachio risotto, according to an ECC news release. In 2025, she placed first with her pistachio panna cotta and pumpkin chiffon tartlet. First-prize is a $1,000 scholarship.

Presented by John B. Sanfilippo & Son Inc., the competition took place April 16 at the college’s Spartan Terrace Restaurant.

Competing students had to develop an original recipe featuring Fisher Nuts products. During the event, they prepared and presented their dishes for a panel of judges, including Fisher Nuts employees and guests.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP KITE FEST SET FOR SATURDAY

Hanover Township’s third annual kite festival will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, at the Carl R. Hansen Woods Forest Preserve on Route 59, south of Shoe Factory Road, in Hoffman Estates.

The festival is a celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honors the origin of kites, according to a news release. A limited number of free kites will be given away. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own as well.

Brookfield Zoo Chicago’s Animal Ambassador Program will also be onsite and kids can explore Crabtree Nature Center’s interactive display of local, natural artifacts, a news release said. Free popcorn, snow cones and a bounce house will be available.

In addition to onsite parking at the preserve, free offsite parking with shuttle service will be available at Streamwood High School, 701 W. Schaumburg Road.

D300 MASTER PLAN SURVEY BEING CONDUCTED

School District 300’s online survey to obtain input for a master facility plan is open through Sunday, May 10.

The survey is open to all District 300 residents, including parents, staff and community members, according to a social media post. It takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Participation ensures that future facility decisions are well-informed and community-driven, according to the post. According to the D300 website, once created, the document will be a guide for managing the district’s infrastructure, including school buildings and student activity spaces.

DUNDEE-CROWN STUDENTS UP FOR ACTING AWARDS

Two Dundee-Crown High School students are among the 24 nominees for acting awards at the 15th Annual Broadway In Chicago Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Corinne Stewart is up for Best Actress for portraying Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch and Sebastián Llavona has been nominated for playing Dmitry in Dundee-Crown’s production of “Anastasia,” according to a news release.

The two juniors were selected from ­­among 348 student applicants attending 95 schools across the state. They’ve been invited to take part in an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place in Chicago.

During the day, nominees will perform for a panel of industry professionals, who will adjudicate and select the top six finalists and the eventual winners. During the ceremony, the nominees will perform a number from the Tony Award-winning musical, “Les Miserables.”
