A 65-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle overnight after an argument broke out in the Gage Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 2:45 a.m., the victim was standing on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of South Western Avenue when a driver in a blue SUV stopped near the curb and an argument ensued, police said.

The male driver of the SUV drove onto the curb and struck the 65-year-old man before fleeing east on 51st Street. The victim suffered trauma to the body and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
