1 fatally wounded in officer-involved shooting in Woodlawn

Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting that happened Wednesday night during a domestic battery in the Woodlawn neighborhood, officials said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers responded to a domestic battery call in the 6500 block of South Champlain Avenue. Once troopers arrived, they saw an armed man and a struggle ensued and shots were fired, officials said.

The suspect was wounded, and taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered at the scene, Illinois State Police said.
