A 16-year-old boy was fatally wounded Tuesday morning in a drive-by shooting in the city’s South Shore neighborhood.

Shortly after 9:10 a.m., a boy was walking north in the 7800 block of South Coles Avenue when a white vehicle approached with three to four occupants inside. One of the occupants pulled out a firearm and opened fire, police said.

The victim was struck multiple times and was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Kenyae Franklin, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

No one was in custody for the fatal attack, and detectives were investigating.
