Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest highlights CSO trombonist

Classical music fans are invited to a performance by the Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest at 4 p.m. April 19 in the chapel at Concordia University in River Forest.

Timothy Higgins, newly appointed principal trombonist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will perform his “Concerto for Trombone.” Other pieces on the program are Leonard Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances” from “West Side Story” and Robert Schumann’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54,” featuring Dylan Zhang, the 2026 Concerto Competition winner.

A lecture begins at 3 p.m. and a free reception follows the program.

Hinsdale Central girls basketball summer camp set

Girls who will be in kindergarten through eighth grade this fall can join a girls basketball summer camp at Hinsdale Central High School, 5500 S. Grant St. in Hinsdale.

The camp, which takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. June 1 to 5,  will be led by the high school’s head girls’ basketball coach, Brett Moore, and his staff and players. The team won regional championships this season and has done well in other seasons too, with back-to-back top 25 state finishes and consecutive 22-plus win seasons.

The focus will be on developing skills for those new to basketball or those who are advanced players. Participants will be grouped by skill level.

Take in cantata April 12 at Elmhurst church

A post-Easter cantata will be performed at 5 p.m. April 12 at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 1070 S. Prospect Ave. in Elmhurst.

The cantata, “We Remember Calvary,” features songs and hymns performed by the Orland Park Christian Reformed Church choir and musicians. Information is at 630-279-1776.

Triton College signing up students for summer sessions

Registration has begun for summer 2026 classes at Triton College, 2000 Fifth Ave. in River Grove.

The first five-week session starts May 26, with an eight- week session beginning on June 9 and a second five-week session starting July 6. New student orientation for first-year and prospective students are set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m June 23, July 9 and July 22, all in the Student Center Cafeteria.

Students can earn transferable credits, complete certificate or degree requirements and reduce tuition expenses with these classes.

Pianist headlines concert at Hinsdale church

A community piano concert titled “Classical Reflections” is planned for 7 p.m. April 11 at Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church, 201 N. Oak St. in Hinsdale.

The event highlights acclaimed pianist Greg Hartmann, who is known for his “expressive performances and appearances across the United States and Europe,” according to a news release. “Audiences can expect a thoughtfully curated program of timeless works, offering both beauty and reflection.”

The program is free and open to the public although an offering will be collected. The concert is part of the church’s Community Concert Series, which is aimed at providing high-quality musical experiences to the public.

LaCrosse program registering for spring sessions

Spring sessions of the Hinsdale Herd lacrosse, a community-based youth lacrosse partnership between the village of Hinsdale, The Community House and East Ave Lacrosse, start soon. Some sessions already are filled.

Boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade can register to join the program, which is offered all year. Participants who are new to the sport and those who are returning are welcome.
