A 44-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were fatally wounded Monday night during a fight on the West Side in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a call of two people wounded in the 2800 block of West Washington Boulevard where a 44-year-old man and a 31-year-old man where fighting inside a residence.
During the fight, one of the men pulled out a sharp object and the other man opened fire, striking him multiple times, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A 38-year-old woman who attempted to intervene during the fight suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was taken to the same hospital where she also was pronounced dead. The man who shot them both is a valid FOID cardholder. A weapon was recovered at the scene. The shooter was arrested, and charges are pending, police said.
