Skeletal remains discovered Tuesday in a field near Mokena have been identified as 35-year-old Terhan F. Gordon, a Joliet man reported missing by his family last July.

The Will County coroner’s office reported the identification Friday night. Previously the office said it was conducting forensic testing with the University of Illinois department of anthropology and forensic odontology to determine the identity and gender.

Joliet police have said Gordon was last seen June 27, 2025, in the 1500 block of North Broadway Street in Joliet.

Land surveyors found what appeared to be a human skull when working in the field near Oakwood Drive and Townline Road, and more bones were found when investigators were called to the scene, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.

Elizabeth Matthews, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said more than two dozens officers from the criminal investigations, crime scene investigation and Will County Emergency Management Agency search and rescue completed the search Wednesday.
